We are currently hiring an Early Learning Director/ Lead Teacher for our Early Learning Center at SUNY Sullivan, Loch Sheldrake, NY.
While most of this role’s time will be spent in the preschool classroom supporting the implementation of curriculum, some of the time will also be spent in the role of an administrator, planning, organizing, and implementing services of the childcare program, exercising independent judgment, best practices and decision-making authority as delegated, including but not limited to following budgets, policies, procedures, and proper staff training and supervision.
PAY: Director: $20/hr Lead teacher: $17/hr SCHEDULE: Director: 5 hours/week Lead Teacher: 24.
5 hours/week JOB STATUS: non-exempt DIRECTOR JOB CONSISTS OF: Work with the marketing team to promote the center's open houses, events, and available spots and establish relationships within the community in an effort to grow enrollment and meet community needs.
Licensing and managing an operation that follows Office of Children and Family Service Day Care regulations, establishing a positive working relationship with the local OCFS licensor.
Maintaining complete student records per OCFS requirements.
Maintaining the physical space including ordering supplies and developmentally appropriate equipment, furniture, manipulatives etc per ECERs guidelines.
Handling all aspects of staffing including the hiring of highly qualified individuals, dedicated to providing the highest level of care and customer service, to meet enrollment demands.
Ensuring that staffing meets all OCFS requirements including, obtaining clearances, monitoring and documenting training, maintaining staff files, and proper staff:child ratios.
Utilizing our HR and communication/registration platforms appropriately and effectively in the day-to-day operations: Communicating effectively and regularly with your direct report, keeping them abreast of daily occurrences and issues as they arise and in a timely manner, working collaboratively as a team to provide the highest quality of care, a positive working environment and to problem solve proactively.
Establishing open, comfortable lines of communication with parents, caregivers, and staff, providing resources and support where needed.
Become an expert on ECER-s, Creative Curriculum, and CLASS observations and make these tools the building blocks of a high-quality early learning program that each staff person utilizes daily.
Scheduling parent-teacher conferences twice a year, providing guidance to staff and support to parents as needed.
LEAD TEACHER JOB CONSISTS OF: Developing weekly plans, and implementing age-appropriate lesson plans using the Creative Curriculum to nurture and stimulate all domains of children’s development in their care.
Create positive adult/child interactions using the CLASS method.
Assures the education, health, welfare, and safety of the children enrolled in their classroom and the center as a whole using ECERS/ITERS.
Maintain ongoing, open communication with parents/ caregivers via Brightwheel App, email, and in-person meetings.
Perform ongoing developmental evaluations of children and plan periodical parent conferences to discuss children's developmental progress, needs, and interests.
Assist families with children's transitions from toddler to preschool and from preschool to kindergarten.
Maintain accurate, complete, and timely family and agency records; including daily meal and attendance records.
Ensures that the Childcare Assistant is kept updated in all matters concerning the classroom and program, i.

meetings, lesson plans, policies & procedures, and training received.
Provides functional training and guidance to staff, interns, substitutes, and volunteers assigned to the classroom.
Participate in ongoing in-service and educational development opportunities provided by Healthy Kids.
Requirements: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: To be qualified as a Director, a person must possess either: (i) a bachelor's degree, including or in addition to 12 credits in early childhood, child development, or a related field; one year of full-time teaching experience in a child care center, family or group family day care home, or another early childhood program; and one year of experience supervising staff in a child care program or a related field of work; or (ii) a New York State children's program administrator credential; one year of full-time teaching experience in a child care center, family or group family day care home, or another early childhood program; and one year of experience supervising staff in a child care program or a related field of work; or (iii) an associate's degree in early childhood or related field, with a plan of study leading to a bachelor's degree or a New York State children's program administrator credential; two years of full-time teaching experience in a child care center, family or group family day care home or another early childhood program; and two years of experience supervising staff in a child care program or a related field of work; or (iv) a child development associate credential or another office-recognized credential, with a plan of study leading to a bachelor's degree or a New York State children's program administrator credential; two years of full-time teaching experience in a child care center, family or group family day care home or another early childhood program; and two years of experience supervising staff in a child care program or a related field of work.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must pass a full background check, including fingerprinting, references, SEL & SCR through NYS Office of Children and Family Services.
Must be medically fit to perform all job duties, free of communicable disease including TB, and provide documentation from a licensed physician within the past year.
