Description:
The Early Head Start Lead Teacher is responsible for managing the classroom and its staff, supporting the students, and implementing classroom activities.

Qualifications:
MANDATORY: Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education OR CDA with a minimum of 6 credits.
Minimum of one (1) year experience working in a childcare program as a lead teacher.
Experience working with infants and toddlers is preferred.
Valid NYS driver's license and reliable means of personal transportation for travel between site locations.
Able to satisfactorily pass the Comprehensive Background Clearance process.
Able to efficiently navigate the classroom and engage with children by bending, squatting, kneeling, etc.
General Responsibilities:
The Early Head Start Lead Teacher is responsible for the implementation of classroom activities and student engagement as directed by the Curriculum Director and Center Director.
Program Responsibilities:
Provide a safe, healthy learning environment that is welcoming to parents and is respectful of beliefs, culture, language, ethnicity and family composition.
Implement the High Scope curriculum and Pyramid Model framework as directed by the Curriculum Director.
Develop an environment that encourages the development of self-awareness, autonomy and self-expression and supports the emerging skills of the child in all aspects of their learning.
Engage in plans for routines and transitions so that they occur in a timely, predictable, and unrushed manner according to each child's needs.
Collaborate with the parent/guardian, classroom and family services team in implementing plans for identified children.
Monitor and support classroom ratios at all times.
Conduct classroom planning sessions to develop both individual and weekly lesson plans in collaboration with the Assistant Teacher
Provide a balanced daily program of child-initiated and adult-directed activities.
Ensure that all classroom materials are kept clean and in good repair: submit yearly inventory as requested.
Maintain health and safety practices with students including engaging in established health and safety procedures and protocols for individual, environmental and collective wellness.
Engage in active supervision at all times inside and outside of the classroom when students are in your care.
Follow and implement effective teaching practices to fidelity.
Attend all staff meetings, in service training sessions, and component meetings.
Engage with children to develop healthy social emotional skills with peers throughout the day.
Attend parent meetings as needed to familiarize parents with Head Start and its operations.
Engage and communicate with families regularly.
Complete parent-teacher conferences, home visits, screenings, and observation of students.
Support the completion of COR activities in a timely manner.
